Open to current undergraduate and graduate students
Students from all majors are welcome to apply.
Applicants should demonstrate an interest in learning about fusion energy policy.
About the Fusion Student Delegation (FuSD)
The Fusion Student Delegation (FuSD) offers a unique opportunity for students to spend a week in Washington, DC, learning about the fusion energy policy landscape. Delegates will engage with policymakers, experts, and industry leaders, advocating for the future of fusion energy. The week is packed with meetings, workshops, and networking opportunities designed to immerse students in the world of fusion policy.
What Makes a Strong Candidate
A strong application will reflect:
A genuine interest in and knowledge of fusion energy and policy, whether through coursework, extracurricular activities, or personal passion.
Effective communication skills and a demonstrated ability to advocate for important causes.
A collaborative spirit for working with fellow delegates.
Responsibilities of a Delegation Member
Leading up to the week in DC, selected delegates will be required to:
Attend virtual preparation sessions.
Research key topics related to fusion energy policy.
Contribute to group discussions and meetings.
Treat fellow delegates and all meeting participants with respect.
Learning Outcomes for Participants
Understand the role of Congress, executive agencies, think tanks, and industry groups in shaping fusion innovation
Advocate for fusion energy relevant policy (research, education, regulation) to Congressional staffers and executive officials
Analyze existing public policy documents and writing original policy briefs
Network with fusion industry leaders, scientific experts, and policymakers in Washington D.C.
Understand your role as a student in the fusion ecosystem
Funding Information
Students will be responsible for securing funding for the program in Washington D.C. This is typically acquired through their academic departments. FuSD’s officers will assist in identifying and securing funding for members.
